Content

The project "Monitoring of the construction and operation of wind turbines in forest" will broaden the essential/basic knowledge about relevant environmental impacts of wind turbines in forest.
Through before-after/control-impact (BACI) studies and comparisons to reference areas standardized data will be generated to proof (earlier on) formulated cause-and-effect hypothesis, as well as to develop adaptive measurements and identify recommendations for the siting and planning of wind turbines in forest.
The results will be compared with the state of knowledge about impacts of wind turbines in open areas (non-forested land) and shall enable to assess the negative impacts of wind turbine sites in forest.
The main objectives of this research will be birds and bats, due to the requirements of the Endangered Species Act under § 44 Sect. 1 Bundesnaturschutzgesetz (the German Federal Nature Conservation Act).
The study will include other natural assets in the context of a literature review.
